Proclamation of October 15th as International Day of Rural Women.

General Assembly - the United Nations

The Internation Day of Rural Women was officially established by the United Nations General Assembly Resolution A/RES/78/279 on December 18, 2007, with the first observance in 2008. The idea originated from international NGOs at the 1995 Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing. The date, October 15th, was chosen to be the day before World Food Day (October 16th) to highlight rural women's role in food production and security.
